An Indian national wanted for the New Year’s Eve murder of 27-year-old data and strategy analyst Nikitha Godishala in Maryland has been taken into custody in India nearly eight months after the crime.
Investigation and Arrest:
Arjun Sharma, 26 identified by U.S. authorities as the victim’s ex-boyfriend and by her father as her roommate was tracked down to an apartment in Agra by Hyderabad police. The breakthrough came while local law enforcement was investigating a separate cheating case filed in April following a complaint by the victim’s father, Anand Godishala, who alleged that Sharma had borrowed money and failed to return it.
During the probe, Hyderabad police gathered intelligence leading to Sharma’s location in Agra, where a team served him a notice regarding the financial dispute. Because a murder warrant and non-bailable charges were already pending against him in the United States, central authorities were immediately notified. Sharma was subsequently produced before the Patiala House Court in New Delhi, which remanded him on August 25 in connection with the homicide case.
Background of the Case:
Nikitha Godishala, who had lived in the United States for approximately four years, was reported missing on January 2 after failing to reach out. Howard County police subsequently discovered her body with multiple stab wounds inside Sharma’s apartment in Columbia, Maryland, determining that the killing likely occurred on December 31, 2025.
While U.S. authorities secured first- and second-degree murder warrants alleging that Sharma fled the country shortly after the incident, the victim’s family maintained that the pair were roommates and pointed to underlying financial disputes.
