A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, commercially titled Toxic and directed by Geetu Mohandas, experienced a sharp decline on its first Monday, casting uncertainty over its long-term box office trajectory. Despite launching with massive figures last Wednesday as one of the year’s most anticipated projects, the film encountered mixed-to-negative audience reviews, with primary criticism focused on its screenplay and excessive violence. Following steady momentum through the extended weekend, the feature witnessed a significant downturn on Day 6.
On Monday, the production collected Rs 7.45 crore net across 13,400 shows in India, marking a 67.6% drop compared to Sunday’s collection of Rs 23 crore net. This brings the cumulative domestic net total to Rs 221.55 crore, with the Indian gross standing at Rs 264.80 crore. In international markets, the feature added another Rs 2 crore on Day 6, elevating its total overseas gross to Rs 39.25 crore and pushing the worldwide gross past the milestone mark to stand at Rs 304.05 crore.
While surpassing the Rs 300 crore global threshold represents a notable financial milestone, the sharp Monday crash has raised concerns among industry trade analysts, particularly given the immense expectations preceding release. Comparisons to Yash’s previous blockbuster, KGF: Chapter 2—which accumulated roughly Rs 430.15 crore net domestically within its first five days highlight a stark contrast, as Toxic has earned less than half that amount over a comparable early timeframe.
Although Yash’s box office pull secured a massive opening, the steep weekday drop indicates difficulties in sustaining initial momentum. The upcoming weekday collections will prove decisive in determining whether the feature can stabilize its theatrical run.
