On July 21, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety (DPS), working in coordination with the Santa Clara County Specialized Enforcement Team (SCCSET), carried out an undercover sting operation that resulted in the arrest of two suspects accused of selling methamphetamine at Fair Oaks Park, located at 540 N. Fair Oaks Ave. As part of proactive enforcement initiatives, law enforcement embedded undercover officers within the park to probe suspected narcotics activity. Throughout the investigation, officers identified two primary drug dealers, mapped out their distribution methods, and successfully purchased methamphetamine from both individuals on multiple occasions.
Paige Johnson, a spokesperson for DPS, noted in an email statement that the amount of information the department could disclose remains restricted due to the ongoing nature of the investigation. Consequently, details regarding the identities of the suspects have not been released.
Unique ‘Treasure Hunt’ Distribution Tactics:
Investigators uncovered that the suspects utilized unique concealment tactics to minimize direct hand-to-hand contact and lower the risk of police detection. Narcotics were frequently hidden by lightly burying them beneath tanbark, concealing them within shrubbery, or placing them under stationary objects across the park grounds.
Under this system, once customers completed payments, the suspects would swiftly exit the area and direct buyers to the hidden stash location, effectively turning the retrieval process into a treasure hunt. Additionally, transactions were occasionally conducted directly from a vehicle parked near the vicinity.
Search Warrants and Subsequent Custody:
Following the arrests, authorities executed search warrants at residences and vehicles associated with the suspects in Sunnyvale, recovering additional evidence tied to narcotics sales and impounding the vehicles allegedly used in the operation. Both suspects are currently being held in custody at the Santa Clara County Jail, situated at 150 W. Hedding St. in San Jose. The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office has formally filed charges concerning the sale and transportation of controlled substances, though exact charges have not been publicly disclosed by DPS.
