HYDERABAD — Oscar-winning music director M.M. Keeravani and director S.S. Rajamouli are set to reunite for their next feature project, tentatively titled Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu. The legendary duo, whose partnership originated with Student No. 1 in 2001, has produced iconic scores across blockbuster titles including Magadheera, the Baahubali franchise, and RRR.
Speaking during a recent visit to the United States, Keeravani shared that he will commence music composition for Varanasi in September 2026. The composer is scheduled to spend five dedicated months crafting the film’s musical score, extending through January 2027. Following the completion of the background score, full post-production is planned to wrap ahead of an intended April 2027 final cut.
Varanasi is envisioned as a globe-trotting action adventure that integrates thematic elements inspired by the Ramayana. The extended timeframe dedicated to the soundtrack underscores the central role that background music and sound design will hold in delivering Rajamouli’s cinematic vision.
