The poll indicates a high potential for a prospective “vice-presidential matchup in 2028,” as USA Today put it, with former Vice President Kamala Harris and current Vice President JD Vance leading their respective primary fields. While both figures demonstrate strong early backing within their bases, the polling reveals sharply contrasting field dynamics for each political party.
Democratic Primary Field:
The Democratic side points to a tightly contested and wide-open primary. Kamala Harris currently holds a narrow lead at 17% support, closely pursued by former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg at 16%. Additionally, California Governor Gavin Newsom and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez remain within striking distance, each capturing 14% of support among Democratic voters.
Republican Primary Field:
In contrast, the Republican race displays a much clearer frontrunner. JD Vance commands a comfortable lead with 44% support, distantly followed by Secretary of State Marco Rubio at 21% and Donald Trump Jr. at 8%.
