Major Hollywood releases are currently enjoying an unprecedented dream run across India, overshadowing domestic titles that are struggling to match the immense craze surrounding big-ticket international films. Following Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey which dominated screens nationwide last month Marvel’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day has taken the box office by storm. The superhero blockbuster grossed a staggering Rs 308 crore in its first four days in India alone, cementing its status as a massive box-office phenomenon.
Surging Momentum and Regional Impact:
With advance bookings remaining exceptionally strong throughout the week, trade analysts project an even bigger surge in collections during the second weekend. This momentum extends far beyond metropolitan hubs, recording massive traction in Tier-2 and Tier-3 markets across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh including Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Tirupati, Rajahmundry, Kakinada, and Visakhapatnam. The overwhelming response from Gen Z audiences, in particular, has created a formidable hurdle for regional releases. This includes Varun Tej’s upcoming film Korean Kanakaraju, scheduled for an August 7 release; despite positive promotional buzz, it faces an uphill battle competing against the ongoing Spider-Man wave and the star power of Tom Holland, whose popularity has scaled new heights following his appearance in Nolan’s The Odyssey.
