Director SS Rajamouli is reportedly planning an unprecedented global release for his upcoming film Varanasi, starring Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Prithviraj Sukumaran. According to reports, the filmmaker intends to dub the movie in nearly 50 languages and release it across approximately 120 countries.
Rather than relying on synthetic or AI-generated voices, Rajamouli has reportedly decided to use real dubbing artistes to ensure that the emotional depth, personality, and impact of each character remain intact across every language version. A source close to the production noted that the team is planning to sample the voices of over 1,500 artistes before finalizing the cast for the various language versions. This human-centric approach mirrors Rajamouli’s recent stance dismissing claims that AI was used for the film’s teaser glimpse, which he considered an insult to the artists and technicians involved.
With a planned rollout spanning more than 120 countries and 50 dubbed versions, Varanasi is shaping up to be one of the widest international releases ever attempted for an Indian film.
