The Desi Comedy Fest, celebrated as one of the world’s premier and longest-running festivals dedicated to South Asian stand-up comedy, is returning for its 12th edition from August 18 to August 23, 2026. Spanning the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento, this year’s six-night event features 25 talented comedians hailing from across the United States and Canada, performing across six distinct cities.
Origins and Industry Impact:
Established in 2014 by comedians Samson Koletkar and Abhay Nadkarni, the festival started as a regional platform for South Asian comics before evolving into a prominent international comedy institution with showcases across North America and India. Over the past twelve years, the platform has served as a launchpad for emerging talent, with many past performers advancing to major networks and streaming services such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, NBC, ABC, CBS, Comedy Central, Just For Laughs, and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
Reflecting on the milestone, co-founder Samson Koletkar noted that the event’s audience base has steadily diversified, illustrating that great comedy relies on a universal sense of humor rather than shared ethnic backgrounds. Co-founder Abhay Nadkarni added that the festival was originally created to fill a major void for dedicated South Asian performance spaces, expressing pride in how these stories now resonate globally.
