Professional Leadership and Background:
Dr. Mate currently serves as the chief medical officer for Qualified Health AI, a digital health enterprise dedicated to helping medical organizations safely and effectively implement artificial intelligence solutions. Before joining Qualified Health AI, he held the position of president and CEO at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, guiding the renowned international organization’s mission to enhance patient safety and healthcare quality globally.
With over twenty years of hands-on experience spanning health system transformation, technology, policy, and clinical delivery, Dr. Mate has advised major domestic and international bodies, including the World Health Organization and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. His prior board service and advisory commitments include organizations such as MLK Community Health System, Healthcare Excellence Canada, and the Center for Care Innovations. Furthermore, he contributed to the National Academy of Medicine’s Artificial Intelligence Code of Conduct initiative.
Academic and Clinical Roles:
Alongside his corporate and advisory responsibilities, Dr. Mate maintains an active academic and clinical footprint. He acts as a senior scholar at Stanford University’s Clinical Excellence Research Center, practices internal medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, and serves on the faculty at Weill Cornell Medicine. He earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School after completing his undergraduate studies with a bachelor’s degree in American history from Brown University.
