Indian space-tech startup GalaxEye has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first Indian startup to receive a United States patent for satellite imaging technology. The patent protects the foundational core technology behind its proprietary OptoSAR imaging system, covering a system architecture designed to align and synchronize both optical and microwave sensors. This intellectual property protection in the US grants GalaxEye a strategic advantage as it commercializes its weather-agnostic OptoSAR technology across major international markets.
Seamless Earth Observation and In-Orbit Validation:
Founded in 2021 by IIT Madras alumni Suyash Singh, Denil Chawda, Pranit Mehta, Kishan Thakkar, and Rakshit Bhatt, GalaxEye aims to position India as a global originator of deep-tech intellectual property. The innovation solves a long-standing challenge in Earth observation by enabling the simultaneous acquisition of spatially and temporally matched data through the seamless integration of optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar imagery directly at the sensing level. The company has already successfully proven this technology in orbit via Mission Drishti, which launched on May 3 as India’s largest privately built Earth-observation satellite.
Five-Year Constellation Expansion Plans:
Building on its current success, GalaxEye plans to deploy a 30-satellite constellation over the next five years. This constellation will cater to defense, government, and commercial sectors across various applications, including national security, agriculture, infrastructure, insurance, maritime intelligence, and disaster management.
