A 20-year-old Indian national has been arrested in Germany and is currently awaiting extradition to Arizona following the tragic killing of his 19-year-old girlfriend in Tucson. The suspect, Varun Batchigari, faces formal charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. The victim, Julissa Rubi Salazar, was discovered dead on Thursday, August 6, inside an apartment near the University of Arizona. Tucson police reported that her body displayed clear signs of trauma, and investigators determined that she was strangled.

Federal law enforcement sources indicate that Batchigari entered the United States on an F-1 student visa, arriving at Los Angeles International Airport on January 8, 2024.
