Democratic candidate Pia Dandiya has released her first general election commercial in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District, where she is challenging Republican opponent Casey Askar. Dandiya’s campaign has successfully raised $2 million for the race and earned the endorsement of Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), who recently expressed openness to campaigning alongside her. This 30-second advertisement follows a recent House Majority PAC poll indicating a positive trajectory for her campaign.
Poll Results and Voter Shift:
Conducted by Impact Research between August 24 and August 31, the poll revealed key insights into voter preferences within the district:
Initial Matchup: Dandiya held a narrow lead over Askar, standing at 46% to 44%, while the generic congressional ballot showed a tied race at 46% support for both parties.
Post-Information Shift: After voters were provided with background information on both candidates, Dandiya’s support climbed to 49%, while Askar’s support held steady at 44%.
Core Campaign Messaging and Political Opposition:
In her new commercial, Dandiya highlights her professional background as an educator, drawing on her experience teaching students whom others had written off, and notes that her parents instilled in her a commitment to leaving the world better than she found it. The ad transitions to address economic concerns, critiquing Washington lawmakers for prioritizing self-enrichment over public needs. Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee has pushed back against Dandiya, targeting her stance on President Donald Trump and suggesting she would support future impeachment efforts.
