A 28-year-old civil engineer from Hyderabad, Mohammed Jaber Hussain, was found dead under unclear circumstances at his residence in Lowell, Massachusetts, just 17 days after his wedding. Hussain had moved to the United States in 2021 to pursue a master’s degree in civil engineering at the University of New Haven in Connecticut. After completing his studies in 2023, he worked as an intern, joined Green International Affiliates Inc., and later secured a position with Lochner in Massachusetts this June.
Timeline of Events and Family’s Appeal:
According to his father, Mohammed Zakir Hussain, Jaber got married in Texas on August 28 before returning to Massachusetts. Hussain spoke with his family for the last time on September 14. Roughly eight hours later, his roommate called the family to inform them that Hussain had passed away in his sleep.
The family is currently awaiting official postmortem and medical reports to clarify whether he received immediate medical assistance and to determine the exact cause of death.
Government Intervention Sought for Repatriation:
Hailing from an economically weaker section, the grieving family fears they will struggle to bear the high costs and navigate the complex procedures required to bring his mortal remains back to Hyderabad.
Stepping in to assist, Majlis Bachao Tehreek spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan shared an appeal letter written by Hussain’s father to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on X. The letter urges the Indian government to coordinate with local US authorities to expedite the repatriation process and support the family through this tragedy.
