A 28-year-old Indian national from Punjab, Gurdeep Singh, was shot dead while delivering pizza in New York City, plunging his family and native village into deep sorrow. Hailing from Jabowal village near Begowal in Punjab, Gurdeep had migrated to the United States approximately 13 years ago after taking out a loan, driven by the hope of earning a better livelihood to support his family in India.
His father, Pyara Lal, shared that Gurdeep had endured years of hardship after arriving in the U.S., working diligently to improve his family’s financial standing. According to reports, Gurdeep was carrying out a pizza delivery when an unidentified assailant opened fire at him. Local police are actively investigating the incident, with initial assessments pointing to robbery as a possible motive, though official authorities have yet to confirm the exact circumstances behind the shooting.
The tragedy has left his family and community grieving, with Gurdeep survived by his father and brother. The bereaved family has urgently appealed to the Indian government for assistance in repatriating his body back to India at the earliest, while also calling upon U.S. law enforcement to swiftly identify, arrest, and take strict legal action against the perpetrator.
