Tensions have flared up once again in West Asia as the United States accused Iran of attempting to launch attacks on its military bases. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that its forces successfully intercepted multiple missiles fired by Iran. Additionally, CENTCOM announced that it joined forces with the Saudi military to strike bases used by Iran-backed armed groups in Iraq for carrying out attacks, warning Iran and its proxy forces to immediately halt their assaults or face severe retaliation.
“In retaliation for over 30 drone attacks over the past 72 hours, US and Saudi fighter jets jointly targeted several terrorist logistics and weapons caches in eastern Iraq,” CENTCOM stated.
Impact on Oil Infrastructure and Ongoing Investigations:
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia reported that it shot down drones launched by armed factions from Iraq targeting oil facilities for the second consecutive day, alleging that a similar attack had occurred on Monday. In response to these developments, Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi has directed security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.
