US President Donald Trump has pledged a $5,000 (Rs 4,75,000) payment, termed the “Trump dividend,” to every adult American citizen on the condition that Republicans secure control of both the House of Representatives and the United States Senate in the upcoming November 3 midterm elections. Making this announcement during an address at a special midterm Republican National Committee convention in Dallas, Trump attributed the proposed payout to the nation’s economic success. He noted that the funds would be restricted to being spent within the United States.
Campaign Strategy and Voter Appeal:
Positioning himself at the core of the Republican campaign to retain congressional control, Trump urged voters to treat the ballot as though he were personally running, stating, “I’m asking you to pretend that I’m on the ballot… just one more time. Because if we lose, you’re going to lose your border, you’re going to lose your tax cuts, you’re going to lose your safety and security…”. To bolster Republican congressional and senatorial candidates, Trump announced plans for an intensive travel schedule and a series of rallies in closely watched states during the final weeks leading up to the election.
Warnings on Domestic and Foreign Policy:
During his address, Trump cautioned his supporters against what he characterized as the threat of communism within the country, declaring, “There is a crazy little sick cloud over our country… We will defeat communism in America”. Shifting to foreign policy, he issued a warning to Iran regarding military action, stating, “I would advise Iran not to get cute because we will have to hit them very hard”. Additionally, Trump offered a lighthearted proposal during his speech, suggesting that the neighboring state of New Mexico should be renamed “New America”.
