The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has offered a reward of up to $150,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of Manjit Singh Bedi, a naturalized US citizen linked to an alleged scheme that defrauded the federal government of at least $600,000 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. Born in 1961 with India listed as his place of birth, Bedi allegedly operated the Asian Grocery Store in Tacoma, Washington, where he carried out the fraud between March 2024 and June 2025. According to investigators, Bedi swiped customers’ electronic benefit transfer (EBT) cards to provide them with cash instead of food, retaining half of the proceeds for himself.
Violation of Release Conditions and Flight to India:
Following his indictment, Bedi was permitted to appear in court without being arrested under orders to surrender his passport and stay within Washington state. However, the FBI stated that Bedi violated these terms by driving into Canada and subsequently fleeing to India. Consequently, a federal arrest warrant was issued for him on May 21, 2026, in the US District Court for the Western District of Washington in Tacoma after he was charged with violating his conditions of supervision.
