The Hindu Community and Cultural Center (HCCC) Youth & Education division has announced a specialized Kolatam Learning Course spanning the summer and fall seasons of 2026. Designed specifically for children and teenagers, the program offers an engaging and energetic platform to explore traditional Indian folk dance, combining rhythm, coordination, and teamwork through the graceful manipulation of decorated sticks and synchronized group movements.
Schedule, Venue, and Eligibility:
When: Every second and fourth Saturday of each month from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon, commencing July 11th, 2026.
Where: Srirangam Room, Administration Building, Livermore Temple.
Who: Open to kids and youths aged 8 to 15. Parents or guardians are required to accompany participants for the inaugural session to sign the mandatory indemnity and consent form.

The course curriculum introduces students to the core fundamentals of Kolattam within a supportive and interactive environment. Course Guidelines and Participant Instructions:
To ensure a smooth, safe, and respectful learning experience, organizers have outlined clear operational guidelines:
Punctuality and Attendance: Students should arrive slightly ahead of time to allow classes to start promptly, and maintain regular attendance to fully grasp group routines.
Attire and Supplies: Attendees are encouraged to wear comfortable traditional Indian attire or modest clothing suitable for active movement, and to bring a water bottle labeled with the child’s name (no food or external beverages are allowed inside).
Facility Etiquette: Footwear must be deposited exclusively in designated temple shoe racks, avoiding hallways. The sanctity and cleanliness of the classroom environment must be upheld at all times.
Safety and Communication: Given the use of sticks in Kolatam, students must listen attentively to instructors and practice safely. A dedicated WhatsApp group will facilitate official announcements, schedule updates, and class materials. Parents are also encouraged to support home practice between sessions to reinforce learning.
