Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has been forced to cancel the United States leg of his overseas delegation tour after the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) denied him political clearance. The State government had approached the Centre seeking official clearance for a multi-nation tour under the “TelanganaRising” initiative, but permission was granted exclusively for the United Kingdom leg. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the notification regarding the denial of permission for the U.S. visit was conveyed after the official delegation had already arrived in the U.K., with the MEA citing that clearance from a “political angle” was denied.
Focus on Education, Skills, and Global Institutions:
Reacting to the decision, Mr. Revanth Reddy expressed disappointment, noting that the primary goal of the U.S. visit was to bring premier global educational institutions to Telangana in alignment with national educational objectives.
He stated that the proposed engagements aimed to fulfill the aspirations of local youth seeking instruction from top Ivy League and international institutions.
He emphasized that nation-building and youth development should transcend political considerations and elections.
Despite the denial, the Chief Minister instructed the accompanying delegation to proceed with finalizing memoranda of understanding and partnership agreements with prominent U.S. institutions, including Harvard University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Northeastern University, and Virginia Tech.
Transforming Hyderabad into a Knowledge Hub:
Mr. Revanth Reddy stressed that his long-term vision is to transform Hyderabad into a world-class global knowledge hub. Building upon the city’s existing academic ecosystem ranging from Osmania University and the University of Hyderabad to IIT, ISB, IIIT, and NALSAR the next phase of development focuses on integrating top global learning opportunities directly into the State.
Revised Itinerary and Ongoing U.K. Engagements:
Following the cancellation, the Chief Minister will cut short his tour and return to Hyderabad on August 23, instead of proceeding to Boston and New York as originally scheduled. Over the remaining days, he will continue his planned interactions in the U.K., meeting academics and representatives from Oxford University, Cambridge University, the London School of Economics, the London Business School, and various skilling organizations to build international partnerships. Reaffirming his commitment, Mr. Revanth Reddy asserted that the “TelanganaRising” initiative remains unstoppable.
