TEHRAN — Iran’s Foreign Ministry has officially denied agreeing to a second round of peace negotiations with the United States. The announcement came shortly after the US seized an Iranian-flagged cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Iranian officials to state that no further discussions are planned.
The Iranian decision follows recent statements from US President Donald Trump indicating plans to dispatch a delegation to Islamabad for potential talks. According to state news agency IRNA, Tehran’s refusal stems from Washington’s shifting positions, contradictory stances, excessive demands, and the continuation of a naval blockade that Iran considers a violation of ceasefire terms.
In response to the escalation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has restricted passage through the Strait of Hormuz. Commercial vessels are now required to follow Guard-designated transit routes and secure prior permission, with warnings that unapproved ships approaching the area risk being targeted.
