The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on July 31 that a total of 2,273 Indian nationals have been sent back to India from the United States since the beginning of 2026. This latest update follows a significant volume of returns recorded in the previous year, during which 3,567 Indian citizens were similarly deported from U.S. territories amidst tightened border controls and enforcement policies.
Verification and Due Diligence Protocols:
Addressing the mechanisms involved in international returns, the official MEA spokesperson emphasized that New Delhi maintains continuous collaboration with various foreign authorities regarding immigration and deportation matters.
Identity Confirmation: When individuals are referred for repatriation, Indian officials initiate rigorous background checks and due diligence procedures to verify citizenship.
Approval for Return: Travel and transit facilitation back to India only proceeds after authorities are completely satisfied that the person concerned holds verified Indian nationality.
Advocating for Orderly Migration:
Concluding the briefing, the government reaffirmed its steadfast dedication to fostering secure, regulated, and legal pathways for international mobility while discouraging unauthorized travel channels.
