The Indian Overseas Congress USA (IOC USA) organized a public demonstration at Times Square on July 26 to express solidarity with students across India. Bringing together national leaders, state chapter representatives, members, and supporters from across the United States, the event advocated for educational transparency, constitutional governance, democratic accountability, and equal opportunities for students.
Core Message and Placards:
Participants displayed both the Indian national flag and the American flag, emphasizing that education must remain transparent, merit-based, inclusive, and accessible to all individuals regardless of their social or economic background. Demonstrators carried placards featuring messages such as:
“Save Democracy, Save India”
“Stand with India’s Students”
“Justice for Students”
“Today’s Students, Tomorrow’s Future”
“Protect Constitutional Values”
Leadership Statements:
George Abraham (Vice Chairman, IOC USA): Commended the students’ determination, calling their movement a major milestone in contemporary politics. He stated that the youth have reminded the nation that ordinary voices cannot be permanently sidelined and noted that the protests successfully shifted the national conversation from personalities to principles and accountability.
Mohinder Singh Gillzian (National President, IOC USA): Emphasized that when young citizens peacefully raise concerns about their futures, governments ought to respond through dialogue, accountability, and democratic engagement instead of confrontation.
