Career diplomat Dr. M. Anand Prakash officially assumed charge as the Consul General of India in Chicago. He succeeds Ambassador Somnath Ghosh, who transitioned to his new role as India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia. A distinguished 2005-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Prakash brings two decades of deep diplomatic expertise to represent India’s interests across the U.S. Midwest, arriving in the city alongside his wife, Dr. Srivardhini, and their two children.
Extensive Diplomatic Career and Headquarters Experience:
Prior to taking up his assignment in Chicago, Dr. Prakash served at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, heading the critical Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran Division. His impressive tenure at headquarters also includes pivotal leadership roles within the Eurasia Division, the West Asia and North Africa Division overseeing diplomatic relations with Israel, Palestine, Egypt, and Syria and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Division.
Global Postings and Linguistic Proficiency:
Throughout his twenty-year diplomatic career, Dr. Prakash has represented India across multiple international missions, completing vital overseas postings in Beijing, Moscow, Kyiv, and Jakarta. A skilled polyglot, he is proficient in English, Tamil, and Hindi, alongside a working knowledge of Russian. Outside of his rigorous official responsibilities, he enjoys traveling and listening to music.
